Time to Celebrate!

Dogs are more than just pets—they are part of your family! And just like humans, they deserve to have a day all about them. A birthday cake (or woof-day cake!) can be a great way to show your furry friend how much you love them. Plus, it’s a fun and easy way to treat them to something special with simple and safe ingredients you likely already have in your kitchen. And the best part? It’s completely customizable to your dog’s dietary needs and preferences! If lactose sensitive, you can use lactose-free yogurt. If gluten sensitive, you can use oat flour instead of all-purpose. You can also swap out the center filling for peanut butter, yogurt, or anything else your dog loves instead of the pumpkin puree! And of course, you can decorate with your pup’s favorite treats 🙂

When it comes to decorating, I suggest using the cake tools previously mentioned in the chocolate cupcake recipe. As for the 8″ cake pans, I recommend these stainless steel, non-toxic, and dishwasher safe pans. When it comes to decorating, definitely use the freshly made frosting to your heart’s desire, and don’t be afraid to throw some additional bones/treats onto the cake as well! This is your pup’s day, so don’t be afraid to go all out! They will love this cake, and you will love spoiling them to bits 🙂

This cake is completely dog-friendly and is made with simple ingredients such as pumpkin puree and greek yogurt. This recipe includes not only the cake itself, but also the icing, so keep your four legged friend close by to help clean the spatulas!

Ingredients

  • Cake Batter
  • 1 cup pumpkin puree

  • 1/2 cup smooth peanut butter (no salt)

  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil

  • 4 eggs

  • 1 1/3 cup all-purpose flour

  • 2 tsp baking soda

  • Frosting
  • 1 cup greek yogurt

  • 1/4 cup smooth peanut butter (no salt)

  • Filling
  • 1 cup pumpkin puree

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease two 8″ cake pans.
  • In a large bowl, mix the pumpkin puree, smooth peanut butter, vegetable oil, and eggs with a hand mixer until smooth.
  • Slowly add in the flour and baking soda, and mix until well combined.
  • Divide the batter evenly between the two cake pans.
  • Bake for 18 minutes or until it passes the toothpick test. Allow to cool completely on a wire rack.
  • While the cakes cool, prepare the frosting. To a medium bowl, add the greek yogurt and smooth peanut butter. Using the whisk attachment on the hand mixer, whisk together until light and smooth.
  • Once the cakes are completely cool, proceed with decorating/assembling. Spread a very thin layer of the frosting on top of one of the cakes, and then pipe a border around the edge. Within the border, fill it with the remaining pumpkin puree, using an offset spatula to smooth it out. Ensure the piped border doesn’t have cracks so the puree does not leak out of the side of the cake. Carefully place the second cake on top.
  • Use the remaining frosting to decorate the top of the cake as desired, and add any treats if you wish!
